The crash took place around 2:32 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, when a 2008 Nissan Altima struck two utility poles on Canal Street, just north of Ludlow Street, leaving two teens dead, and four others injured, said Stamford Police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth.

According to Booth, Kymoni Pollock, 19, died at the scene, and NiShawn Tolliver, 18, died at the hospital.

As of Friday, Aug. 30, Amaiya Callahan, 19, is the only person from the crash who remains at Stamford Hospital in critical condition, according to hospital officials. Alontia Moore, 20, remains in good condition.

The driver, Jerry Diaz, 18, and passenger Erica Stephens, 19, have been released.

The initial investigation revealed that the Nissan was traveling southbound on Canal Street at a high rate of speed and just south of Henry Street when Diaz allegedly lost control, Booth said.

"The vehicle struck the first pole, breaking it into several pieces, then continued until striking the second pole and coming to final rest," said Booth, the supervisor of the department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.

The second pole was also snapped in half.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Booth said the investigation was continuing and once completed would be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office before any charges are filed.
